Kristina Mense is a wife and mother of four children, one with special needs. Her son, Steven plays on the PAL Jr Islanders 14U AAA Major team. She is battling her second bout of Breast Cancer and recently received some poor test results. She is currently Stage 4 and the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes, liver and bones. All the medical bills are leaving a strain on the family. They are in desperate need to do whatever it takes to help her beat this, and some options are not covered under their insurance. September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness month and the PAL Jr Islanders 10U AAA Minor team is raising money to support the Whip Pediatric Cancer Charity.
In August of 2016, Whip Pediatric Cancer launched the HEART OF GOLD program, which asked students to get involved in fundraising for pediatric cancer research. In 2016, Whip Pediatric Cancer sent out 500,000 GOLD paper hearts to 971 schools around the country.
